"Vector Laboratories" Update - May 23, 2007

Hello, my friends...

Summer would finally seem to be here in Michigan. It's already almost 80 degrees this morning. The forecast says we'll have highs in the 60s for the next week after this, but I'm sure more hot days are soon to follow. Bring 'em on!

I had originally hoped to be out playing live shows by the time summer got into full swing, but at this point I'm still working away on the new recording project; by the time I get it finished and get some rehearsal time in, I'd say autumn is more realistic for that at this point. I've come to realize by now that almost everything takes longer than you think it will and that life always has a wrench or two to toss into the best laid plans!

The recording itself is coming along great. I'm working on the 6th new song right now, a track called "Surface Tension." If I had to pin down any particular common thread with the new material, I'd have to say it sounds a little more "organic" than my last album or two. I'm playing a lot of piano on this one and often putting down two or three tracks of bass doing chordal parts and such. I'm still using plenty of synthesizers, mind you...but the focus is a little different this time and the synths are being used more for texture and atmosphere. Lately I'm finding myself not caring quite as much about creating tracks that are as slick and full of sonic "gimmicks," instead going for a more human and visceral way of communicating my feelings and thoughts.

I've been shooting a bit of video here and there too during the process, so once again the new CD will probably come with a little "making-of" type video so you can get a small glimpse into the process.

Well, one more quick cup of coffee and I'd better get down to work. Time is the enemy and there are just never enough hours in the day. Take care and I'll be talking to you soon!

l8r!
