NEW SONG PREVIEW - "Desert Power"

Note: A few of my recent blogs were posted only to Myspace and never made it here. See them at www.myspace.com/davidvector

Hiya kids!

How goes it, boys and girls? Life been good to you lately? If not, hopefully better things are looming in the near future. We've had a few warm days lately that have given us a taste of impending summer, and I say not a freaking moment too soon!!!

As some of you know, I've been working on a fresh batch of songs for a new EP since the first of the year (partly to keep me occupied for the winter, since it's such a lousy time of year to think about gigging - who wants to drive for hours on bad roads?). I've recorded five new songs, and it's really a mixed bag so far, maybe even moreso than my most recent album, Go.

I figured it was time I offered a "teaser" of what I've been working on, so playing now on my Myspace profile, you can hear a prerelease version of "Desert Power," for which I just finished a rough mix this morning. How's that for the immediacy of the Internet - from my recording computer to your ears in less than a day! This song was originally conceived as an instrumental, but I started getting lyrical ideas as I worked on the music; so I dropped a few vocals in there but still left most of it instrumental. This isn't a dance track in the "club" sense, but it has that sensual, Middle Eastern groove going on, so I could definitely picture doing a little bumping and grinding...maybe some belly dancing, if you were so inclined, hehe!

In the "Toys and Tools" department, I used one of the new Steinberger XQ basses on this track (mentioned in a previous thread). I can't say enough good things about them - wonderfully balanced tone with a lot of clarity. To me, they just sound perfect in a mix, and they're very comfortable to play too (I almost look like I'm having a "bass orgasm" in that photo above, don't I?!?).

Oh, as a side note to give you a grin, I posed for my latest pics without any ball caps or skullies. A guy recently told me I had a "Chris Daughtry" kind of thing going on with my shaved head. I don't know about that, but what the hell, it's a different look for me. Chris D and Howie Mandell have brought sex appeal to the shaved look, so why cover it with hats, I guess!

Anyway, stay tuned...a lot of interesting things are coming along in the near future. Until next time, be good and do good work...and remember, almost anything you can think of becomes exponentially more interesting if you do it naked!
