Something rather interesting happened this past month. I mentioned in my last blog that I had started delving back into recording guitar for the first time in about three years. I figured at the time that it would just be a useful tool for adding some organic textures here and there to my more electronic-based tracks. It turned out to have a bigger impact than that. To my surprise, I found myself wanting to do more rock-oriented music again…or at least, my sort of progressive, slightly-left-of-center brand of rock, anyway. Before I knew it, I had recorded a new song that is more heavy and organic than probably anything I’ve ever done. The synthesizers are still there, of course, but now playing a more textural role with the guitars, bass and drums forming the core of the song. It feels like I’ve come full circle back to a musical territory more like what I was into when I started out, before I veered off into techno/electronica. I’m not completely sure yet what this means for the new album as a whole, but it’s a direction I’m fired up about right now and am going to pursue more.
Since this is a fairly major shift, I’m putting the new song, “Indigo and Black,” up on my website and Myspace profile for you guys to preview. I hope you like it. :-)
Talk to y’all soon!
