New Song Preview - "The God of Speed"

Hello there,

It's me...I'm still alive...honest! The last few months have been busy as heck, so I've been really bad about keeping everybody updated on the progress with the new album and everything in general. A thousand apologies. I deserve a good spanking (okay, that wouldn't really be much of a punishment since I kinda like that thing - D'OH!).

To borrow a line from M, though, "Don't I always make it up to you?" This time I'm making it up to you by posting not only another preview of a new song but also a new video blog (albeit a brief one) for the first time in over a year.

The new song is a track called "The God of Speed," which was very loosely inspired by the film, The World's Fastest Indian. It seems that at least half the songs I write these days are inspired by movies I've watched, so it's a good thing we have a Net Flix account and have fresh "inspiration" arriving in the mailbox every week!

I gave myself a major challenge while working on this song - I completely rebuilt my recording system from the ground up with a new computer and new recording software (in this case, Sonar 7). Wasn't I brave? So, as a result, it took a while to record this one because I was literally having to re-learn how to accomplish the most basic tasks!

I went a little more synthesizer-heavy on this track...it's the first one in a while that I've done that includes no piano at all. While I was recording this, I also snagged a '90s Ibanez ATK fretless bass on eBay. It's a little beaten up and has obviously seen some action, but it sounds great. I ended up adding a few melodic fretless parts to "The God of Speed" with it, and it brought a nice additional organic element to a song that is largely dominated by synths.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new preview. Things have calmed down a bit in life lately, so I should be able to start making faster progress on the new project again. With any luck, I might even still have it done by summer. Let's hope!Hit me up when you get the chance - always great to hear from you guys!
